AMS Review

The industry leading water treatment modeling software DMS:Water is part of our Advanced Modeling Systems (AMS) and is utilized by all DMS engineers. AMS was developed to allow engineers and consultants to quickly model water treatment systems and determine the performance and costs of water systems throughout any water related process. AMS allows our consulting engineers to quickly model re-configurations of a facility’s water systems to simulate performance and potential costs and savings of operating a new configuration.

AMS contains all of the most commonly used water systems from a simple flow connection to a complicated intelligent lime softening unit or HRSG. It also contains action items such as the typical chemicals used in water treatment as well as intelligent processing methods that act on the water such as thin film composite membranes in RO units or strong acid cation resin. DMS continually adds new chemicals and processes in order to keep AMS current with best practices in the industry.

Flow sources (water)

AMS currently tracks 117 elements, compounds, or properties of water.

Systems

AMS currently includes 112 systems of which over 40 are designed as "intelligent" systems. Intelligent systems contain the necessary code to perform additional tasks depending on the parameters entered and each system can contain as many parameters as required. These parameters include data such as capital cost, manufacturer, model, and design or operating details. An example of an intelligent system is a HRSG where the water chemistry is determined from the parameters entered and the chemistry of the water flowing to the system.

Tracking Actuals

AMS allows our engineers to enter chemistry data from plant sites using supplier service reports. This gives our engineers access to SPC and the trending capabilities within AMS.

Reports and Output

AMS contains a variety of reports produced in Excel workbooks format or Visio drawings:

  • Water balance diagrams
  • Individual system design and operating parameters
  • Process performance
    • Chemistry of any flow (as CaCO3, as ion and eq/L)
  • Total chemical operating costs (usage & cost)
    • Chemical operating costs by system
    • Chemical operating costs by unit
    • Commodity chemicals
    • Specialty chemicals
  • Laboratory equipment requirements
  • Chemical feed equipment requirements
  • Control and instrumentation equipment requirements
  • Semi-automated generated process flow diagram

Additional output can be added as necessary, even for unique requirements.

Data Transfer

Transfer within AMS: AMS uses an internally designed data transfer technology to transfer data between individual users of AMS. This feature greatly expands the capabilities of any one consultant as it gives them the ability to discuss individual issues with other expert DMS consultants. Security is maintained as any transferred data is meaningless without the use of AMS.

DCS transfer: AMS can accept data from any database oriented data logging system (there may be some modifications required depending on the system involved).
